INSTALL WORDPRESS ON YOUR SELF HOSTED ACCOUNT

1. Log into your Web Hosting Account and Install WordPress

I’ll be using my Crazy Domains account as an example for this course. Other web hosting providers have a similar WordPress installation process.

  1. Log into your web hosting account.
  2. Go into your domain’s Control Panel.
  3. Scroll down and select ‘Software’, then select ‘Installatron Applications Installer’.
  4. Select the ‘Applications Browser’ tab or enter ‘WordPress’ in the search bar.
  5. Select the ‘Install this Application’ button.

2. On the Install Page, follow these settings:

Location

  • Select domain. Eg. http://www.administrie.com.
  • I left the Directory blank. [Note: If asked to select a directory, select the public_html directory].

Version

  • Select the latest version.
  • Select your preferred language.
  • WordPress EULA: Select ‘I accept the licence agreement’.
  • Automatic Updates: Select ‘Update to minor versions and security releases.
  • WordPress Plugin Automatic Update: Select ‘Do not automatically Update WordPress Plugins’.
  • WordPress Theme Automatic Update: Select ‘Do not automatically Update WordPress Themes’.
  • Automatic Update Back Up: Select ‘ Create a back up and automatically restore the backup if the update fails’.

Settings

Create your WordPress Website Logins:

  • Administrator Username: Enter your preferred username.
  • Administrator Password: Enter your preferred password.
  • Administrator Email: Add your email address.
  • Website Title: Add a title for your website.
  • Website Tagline: Add a tagline for your website.

Two-Factor Authentication with Clef

  • Limited Login Attempts: Select ‘Yes, limit failed login attempts for increased security (Recommended)’.
  • Enable Multisite: Select ‘No, do not enable. Multisite can be enabled later within WordPress (Recommended)’.

Advanced

  • Advanced Setting Management: Select ‘Automatically manage advanced settings for me’.

Then click ‘Install’. Once installed, you will see your WordPress Website installed on your ‘My applications’ tab.

Your log in URL for your website will be: http://www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin. (Replace ‘yourdomain’ with your domain name). Then enter the username and password you set up when you installed WordPress.
